Questions That Matter to You

Your First Therapy Session

If you have decided to begin, it is normal to wonder what the first session will actually be like.

Getting started

The first session usually focuses on what brought you in, what you hope to understand, and some background about your life. You do not need a perfectly organized story.

Questions go both ways

Rebecca will ask questions, and you are welcome to ask yours. Clarifying how sessions work, how often you will meet, and how you can give feedback is a good use of time.

Feelings after the session

Some people leave a first session relieved, and others feel stirred up. Both are common. You can bring those reactions to the next session.

Practical details

Onboarding paperwork and billing setup happen before the first session, after you have agreed to work together. If you have not yet had a consultation, that is the place to start.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the first session?
Session length can be confirmed during the consultation.
What if I do not know what to say?
That is common. Rebecca can help you find a starting point.
