When You Feel Disconnected From Yourself

You may be keeping up with life while finding it difficult to say what you actually want or feel.

Life can look fine from the outside

You may be doing what is expected at work, at home, or in relationships and still feel distant from your own experience. When someone asks what you want, you might have an answer for what would be practical but not for what feels like yours. That uncertainty can be a starting point for a conversation. It does not establish a diagnosis from a webpage.

The words may come slowly

Some people can identify sadness or frustration quickly. Others notice a vague flatness, restlessness, or dissatisfaction that is difficult to explain. You do not have to translate it into polished language before contacting Rebecca. Therapy offers time to speak, notice, and return to what does not yet make sense, without requiring an immediate conclusion about what you should do.

Roles and relationships can matter

You might have spent years being useful, dependable, or agreeable. Those roles may have helped you in important ways while making other parts of yourself harder to hear. The work is not to dismiss those relationships or strengths. It is to explore how you experience them now and where there may be room to understand your own needs more clearly.

Curiosity rather than a quick reinvention

Rebecca's psychodynamic and psychoanalytic work makes room for the history and patterns behind present feelings. You can consider what has changed recently, what has been there a long time, and what happens when you try to express something different. Therapy is not a promise of a new identity or a set of instructions for changing your life. Your experience guides the conversation.

Asking about the work

A free 15-minute consultation is a chance to ask what this kind of therapy involves and whether it may fit what you are seeking. The practice is private pay, with in-person sessions in Mount Kisco and New York online work subject to eligibility. Practical questions about fees and frequency belong in that conversation. Onboarding comes after you and Rebecca agree to try working together.

Frequently asked questions

Does feeling disconnected mean I have a disorder?
Not necessarily. Only an appropriate clinical assessment can address that question; this page does not diagnose.
Can I start without a clear goal?
You can discuss the uncertainty in a consultation and consider together what you want from the work.
